Vacation!

We had a great time in Destin! I got a little too much sun, but we had a a lot of fun. It was great to get away for a few days. We are thankful for trip.

Snow in the South

We had snow here a the first or second weekend in February. The boys had a lot of fun playing it. We didn't build a snow man, but some neighbors did and they seemed to be around for days and days. I guess it takes awhile to melt! We also had snow last week. Then today and yesterday were gorgeous!! Later this week it's supposed to rain- ugh! I can't wait for Spring to *really* come....

A Scary Day for Eli

Okay, Eli was out of it, the rest of us were scared. Here's what happened...

Andrew was sick with a bad cough and strep throat. Delsym is the best cough syrup in my opinion. It works, you only take it once every 12 hours and it's yummy. A little too yummy. Eli was apparently jealous and wanted some, too.

On Wednesday, I was upstairs getting dressed when Andrew called, "Mom, Eli's pouring out the Delsym!" Eli had gotten a chair from the table and drug it to the counter, got the Delsym, and got the top off (still can't figure out HOW). I came down and saw some Delsym in the sink. I didn't see any on the floor, counter, or on Eli's mouth or shirt. The bottle (that Andrew only had a few doses from) was just about empty. I didn't think anything of it until a little later when Eli began wobbling around like he was drunk. His eyes were rolling around and he could barely keep his head up. He was wavering and stumbling. I thought "Could this be a really bad case of strep throat?" A called the doctor for an appointment but couldn't get one soon enough. I took him to the ER near our house.

He got back there quickly. A nurse and nursing student checked us in, but I felt like as soon as I turned around the tiny room was full. A doctor, two or three nurses, a paramedic, a respiratory guy. They were all asking questions, it was overwhelming. His blood pressure fell dangerously low. It took at least 10 different nurses to get blood drawn and an IV going. Apparently they all get two tries. Nurses just kept coming and going. I cried a lot, especially when I had to call Charles who was in Statesboro doing an unfamiliar route in the snow.

Eli got two doses of Narcain to counter act the effects of the cough syrup. The Delsym has the same affect as an opiate, a psychedelic. By the time the Children's Health Care Transport Team arrived Eli was responsive but not verbal and there was no "life" in his eyes. My dad came to be with Andrew and I rode in the ambulance to Egleston with Eli.

By the time we got to Egleston Eli was up, trying to climb out of his little hospital crib and asking for mama. His urine was positive for opiates. We stayed the night for observation. His condition just kept improving and we were discharged Thursday morning. He, I and my mom are all antibiotics for strep JIC, since we all had some symptoms.

I am infinitely thankful that God was with Eli. His normal robust body was weakened and the Lord remained with him. He heard our prayers. Today I read a verse that reminded me (again) that God is in control:

"I form the light and create darkness, I make well-being and create calamity, I am the Lord, who does all these things." Isaiah 45:7.

DISCLAIMER: I found this in my list of posts. Apparently I never published it. So, yeah, it's old.... at least from last summer.

Andrew got a gift card and chose Roller Blades for his birthday. They've been hard to pry off his foot since. He loves them! He also got a Pogo Stick. Both of these keep him active. He sets PR's (personal records) for the amount of hops on the pogo stick. Oh, and he got these gloves with his elbow and knee pad set. The gloves have those cut off fingers- he looks so "professional" in them. Hehehe.

We played pictionary the other day- can you guess what Charles was trying to draw?

Eli is such a nut! I took this picture when he was laying on our living room rug. It's really colorful and we play Twister on it sometimes. I love dual function!

First Haircut

Eli got his first haircut yesterday. He looks like such a big boy. Andrew got one, too. PS- Great Clips has $7.99 haircuts this week....

Adios Diapers (almost!)

It's that time again- time to potty train!! I trained Andrew when he was 2 and a half and it was REALLY easy. Andrew is a pleaser. I was really wondering how it would go with Eli. Before he was actually here, I thought I'd try to do it earlier than with Andrew. Well, even though I had reservations after I realized how different our two boys are, I still tried earlier. (Eli just turned 2 last month).

Like with Andrew, I followed the methods to potty train in one day with this book. My mom used the same book (literally, it's pages are yellowed) to train me, my 2 brothers and one little girl she looked after.

Eli didn't take to potty training on day one so well. He LOVED the positive rewards when he went potty. But he wasn't that upset when he had an accident; and with this method, the disliking of being wet is important. S0 we revisited a week later and he responded well.

He still hadn't done #2 in the potty, but we haven't been using diapers. Yes, that means poopy in undies. And when that happens, Eli has to clean it up. Yes, he does a terrible job but that's not the point. Either way, he is wearing diapers at night and that's it. We'll get him off of that a bit later.

Lots of drinks and salty snacks to help him go.

I'm happy with how he's done so far!
